What are your requirements to start selling?
To become an independent Health agent at Assurance, you will need:
  • An active National Producer Number (NPN)
  • 5 State Licenses. We require a minimum of 5 active Health licenses, and we recommend 7-10 licenses.
  • Current FFM Certification. This annual certification is required for all agents in order to sell health plans and is free to obtain.
    • Please note: FFM certification is REQUIRED in order to contract with our carriers. You will receive a rejection if this step is not complete before beginning the contracting process.
  • Carrier Releases. If you are currently contracted with another FMO/Agency, you must be able to secure an Immediate Release.
  • 1099 agents provide their own equipment. Laptop or computer with highspeed internet (20mbps download and 10mbps upload). Softphone-compatible USB headset.
Why do I need at least 5 state licenses?
Agents who have more state licenses have more success on the Assurance Platform. When you start selling at Assurance, you will get calls from shoppers across the country. The more state licenses you have, the more people you can help. If you don't already have 5 state licenses, you must acquire additional licenses during your Assurance onboarding period.
Do some state licenses have more success than others?
Yes, we highly recommend having licenses from these 19 states. The more states you have, the more people you can help!

How much could I earn?
A reasonable earning expectation for this independent agent position is between $25k-$116k annually depending on hours worked as well as commission and earnings plans.

Agents should anticipate committing to between 10 and 50 hours of work per week to meet the reasonable window of compensation as an independent agent.
Do I need to be a licensed agent to sell with Assurance?
Yes, you must already have your resident state license before selling at Assurance. Required licenses include: Health license, additional state licenses (see above), and any annual certifications.
Do I have to be appointed through Assurance?
Yes. If you are currently appointed with our carriers through another agency, you must request a release and get new appointments through Assurance. We've worked with thousands of agents and our specialized team is here to support you! We'll help you get the information you need for carrier contracting, certifcations, and appointments.
What is an FFM Certification and why do I need it?
The Federally Facilitated Marketplace (FFM) Certification is an annual certificate that allows agents to sell plans within the Affordable Care Act (ACA) insurance marketplace. This means you can make a real difference for customers by offering ACA plans.

FFM certifications are completely free to obtain, and can be done so through the CMS Enterprise Portal in less than a day:

  • Log into the CMS Enterprise Portal
  • Select “MLMS Training” from the “Marketplace Training – Agent/Broker” tile on the portal

What is the chargeback window?
Around 4 months — much shorter than the industry average.
Are there benefits?
This is a contract (1099) role, so there are no traditional benefits. We focus on providing advantages, like no-cost resources, for agents on the Assurance platform. Assurance IQ is a subsidiary of Prudential Financial. Contracts are with Assurance, not Prudential. This is a non-captive agent position.
Do I get residuals?
There are no residuals. Instead, agents focus on sales volume from a steady stream of free, inbound, pre-screened leads. Compensation includes guaranteed sales bonuses. This is a non-captive agent position.
